A unique opportunity to join us at the Hermitage Cottage for a few days in a welcoming ‘home’ environment.
Beautiful Gardens and Plentiful walks in rural County Dowm
Private guidance for meditative practice possible. Join in weekly group meditation sessions and other programmes during your stay.
Also an effective kick off point for a short holiday break

Spacious Private room with shared bathroom and kitchen.
Self Catering with possibility of some shared meals.
You would share my kitchen with me, and we can do some shared meals in the evening, or you can be totally on your own. I provide food stuffs for simple breakfasts and lunches. The ONE stipulation is that you be animal tolerant. I have cats and dogs, though your own rooms would be quite separate from the animals. I have several rooms: two with double beds, and one with two twin beds (though this room is a bit small).

In exchange for room and board ( a room in my own house in the wing where I also provide self- catering retreat space for individuals in sharing use of my kitchen)
I invite help these areas with the following, seasonally determined:

General Exterior ~
Power spraying the yard
Clean ~ wipe down ~ facia board of house
Wash windows of house & outbuilding
Firewood Supply ~ Cut and brought from woodland, especially autumn/winter
Chop where necessary autumn/winter
Stack in Garage autumn/winter
Laying of new gravel on pathways

In the Garden ~
Cut Ivy off trees Spring/Summer
Clean beds, cut back plants & weed where appropriate Spring/Summer/Autumn/Winter
Late spring mulch in April/May
Beginning in March plant potatoes in allotments
Maintenance of Allotment area

Help with yurt~
Occasional hovering and preparing Yurt interior
Assist with food delivery to groups hiring space
Assist with food prep for groups in Yurt

General Household~
My house, and the Hermitage Cottage and yurt is completely NON SMOKING.
(There is a smoking area outside the back kitchen door of house. )

I have two dogs and four cats. They are allowed in to some parts of the house. Occasionally the volunteer would be asked to feed and/or clean after them.

Weekly hoovering of parts of house being used: sitting room, dining room, front entry.
Hoovering and cleaning as regularly as necessary in the kitchen (probably more than once per week;

'Room and Board' to me does NOT mean I will cook meals for you It means we will share my kitchen, and share the food prep for one main meal a day. Food stuffs for Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
It is negotiable to also receive room and board long term for those who ALSO work part time elsewhere

The Hermitage Cottage in Co. Down, provides a private ‘retreat’ (self-catering) for individuals and offers workshops and Programmes on related themes. It sits in a stunning 2 acre garden which is open to the public seasonally. There is a walking Labyrinth in the grounds of the Hermitage Cottage available for contemplative use. A Ceremonial Fire Circle is used to mark seasonal turning points. The Hermitage Cottage Yurt (30ft diametre) is available to hire as a meeting and small classroom space. There are Allotments available to rent on an annual basis *****************
